Community youths host field day, raise $4,000 for local nonprofit

Youth from the Bell Tavern community in Downingtown hosted their second annual fundraising event, Olympics for LittleHearts, on Saturday, September 29. About thirty children planned, promoted, and volunteered, raising $4,000 for local nonprofit Chester County Futures through ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships.

The Bell Tavern community is working together to teach their children to be good citizens through “3S”: save, support, and serve,” shared Srinivasa Nagoti, a parent of volunteers. The children wanted to continue the tradition they started last year when they raised $2,000 for UNICEF. This year they sought out an organization working closer to home. The goal was to not only collect donations, but also to bring the community together and raise awareness for Chester County Futures. Organizers shared, “Education is extremely crucial to success, so when we realized that many students who should be educated lacked resources, we wanted to help.”

The event was held at East Ward Elementary School in Downingtown. The day featured fun, games, and food. Children played field day style games.

The Event Youth Planning Team was Srikar Nagoti and Bhavana Nagoti. The event volunteer team, made up entirely of local children was Srikar Nagoti, Jishnu Katupilla, Shriya Sai Katupilla, Rishi Kamtam, Rithik Kamtam, Saanvi Bandapelli, Anish Bandapelli, Sreyas Kota, Vedha Viddam Reddy, Siddhartha Reddy Satti, Kushi Iyer, Srikar Bhumireddy, Sidharth Madipadaga, Divyesh Gabbireddy, Ashwin Murali, Tej Ramachandrula, Vasishta Sree Tumuluri, Aayush Kruthiventi, Sreesh Gudala, Apurva Sista, Srija Vanacharla, Esha Singh, and Avaneesh Potti.

Chester County Futures Executive Director Maria McDonald shared, “
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Srikar and his peers for their sincere interest in helping our students. Their hard work and patience yielded great success.” She added that she was impressed by the students, and hopes they will keep Chester County Futures in mind when doing service projects in the future.
